We chose to discover Dambulla Cave Temple, because it’s a site rich in history and much appreciated by locals.
To reach the temple you need to be patient and start a climb of hundreds of steps, the view that accompanies the climb, however, makes you pass the fatigue.
THE FOUR CAVES OF DAMBULLA CAVE TEMPLE
The temple is divided into 4 caves, where inside there are several Buddhas, and each has a history.
Cave Deva Raja Viharaya
Cave Maha Raja Viharaya
Cave Maha Alut Viharaya
Cave Paschima Viharaya
Once you have visited the DAMBULLA CAVE TEMPLE you can go down and visit the GOLDEN BUDDHA. Majestic and colourful, you can see it from miles away.
WHEN TO GO
The temple opens at 6:00 a. m. , the best time to go. We recommend that you go there for this hour because there are no tourists but only the monks who start prayers.
Not being very big the caves during the day between tourists and locals who go to the temple, it is difficult to see all the details of the murals and over 153 Buddhas that are present.
You can buy your ticket directly at the entrance before starting the climb to the temple.
The cost is 1500 rupees per person + an offer for the storage of shoes (we recommend putting them there, because there are the monkeys, you risk having them stolen).
HOW TO REACH DAMBULLA CAVE TEMPLE
The best way to reach this temple is to stay at least one night in Dambulla, from where you can not only visit this temple but also do one of the best safaris in Sri Lanka.
