In the last few years, the region of Cappadocia has become pretty popular on social media.
It is very particular and characteristic.
There are many areas with unique geological features, that recall the moon surface: the rocks of Cappadocia eroded into hundreds of spectacular pillars and minaret-like forms, and people, there, carved out houses, churches, monasteries and even hotels.
Also, the typical landscape you will see, would be like a painting. Hundreds of hot-air balloons that fly the sky. It’s a breathtaking view and you won’t believe your own eyes.
Cappadocia is a once-in-a-lifetime destination, not so difficult to reach and enjoyable during every seasons of the year. July and August are the hottest months, thus the climate may not be suitable for you.
Small tip: we suggest you to book, at least, a 2-3 days trip, to enjoy this special and lovely region to the fullest.
We decided to sum up the 6 THINGS TO DO IN CAPPADOCIA.
1-Hot-air balloon ride.
We thought that the number one experience we had in Cappadocia is a hot-air balloon ride at dawn, for this reason is the number one of the things to do in Cappadocia
It was a unique adventure, so powerful and exciting, especially when the balloon takes off: it’s not like a plane flight, it’s a totally different feeling.
But the most emotional part was when, we realized at what height we were and suddenly, we began to notice the view.
An astonishing landscape, so colorful, with a sky full of other hot-air balloons and the land under us, surprisingly very tiny but still breathtaking.
There are many travel agencies, which organize this specific trip, to choose from, so it’s up to you.
We recommend Turkiye Balloons.
2-Watch hot-air balloons from the ground.
It is also a really good experience to look at and enjoy the view of hot-air balloons, that float in the sky at sunrise or sunset.
They are so big and colorful that it’s really easy to take great photos.
Small tip: try to wake up around 5:30 AM and reach the Dalton Brother Region.
It’s there where all the hot-air balloons take off. The location is very easy to find and, also, you can use Google Maps.
3-Cappadocia Open Air Museum or Pasabag Valley.
Cappadocia Open Air Museum has been a member of Unesco World Heritage List since 1984: a stunning, culturally and historically rich fortress carved out from the rocks.
It contains the finest of the rock-cut churches, with beautiful frescoes.
There is a little fee for the ticket, but it’s totally worth it (2,50$ per person).
When we reached the top of the site, the view was terrific! We took amazing photos that we’ll remember forever.
Pasabag Valley, instead, is located not so far from the museum.
It is also called Monks Valley, because of some cones that are carved in tuff stones and that stand apart.
There’s so much history here that the time spent listening to it would be worth it.
Pasabag Valley contains some of the most striking chimneys-form rocks in Cappadocia, with twin and even triple rock caps.
The location is very popular and there are many tourists during all year. There’s no ticket fee.
4-You better try the characteristic food of Cappadocia.
One of the most exciting things, for us, is to try and taste every specialties that a place can offer.
If you’ll find yourself in Goreme, a small town in the centre of Turkey, do not forget to try, at least, one of the many typical restaurants.
Get ready for delicious barbeques, or if you’re into vegetables, don’t worry: many appetizers, condiments and main courses are waiting for you!
5-Book your trip in one of the most typical hotels in Cappadocia.
The major part of the hotels you’ll find here, are carved out in the rocks.
One of the best hotel we saw is Rox Cappadocia, not so far from the Air Museum. A really convenient location if you want to enjoy the flights of hot-air balloons.
One time we decided to woke up very early in the morning, around 5 AM, and to go in the terrace and enjoy the landscape.
We had breakfast while dozens of hot-air balloons took off in the sky at dawn.
It was a breathtaking and an unforgettable moment.
How to get in this fairy region?
The best and fastest way is to purchase the plane tickets directly from Turkish Airlines.
In this way, your luggage won’t be lost in the stopover, and will arrive straight in the Cappadocia region.
There are two airports to choose from if you want to reach the towns of Goreme, Kayseri o Nevsehir; from both airports depart buses that stop by every hotels on the way.
