To get to the top you have to face more than 1200 steps, get ready by bringing water because especially in some places it is very hot and there is no air. We also recommend wearing comfortable shoes.
Climbing is not difficult because there are steps well done and therefore feasible for anyone.
For older people or small children, we recommend that you go during the less warm hours and make several stops.
During the climb you pass in front of some murals made on a wall in the cave, in this point is prohibited the use of mobile phones and cameras.
Once you get to the top, you have a 360-degree view of the entire area. After having rested a few minutes, you can go to the discovery of the ruins.
As Sigiriya Lion Rock is the most famous attraction in Sri Lanka, the cost of the ticket is higher than local standards.
A ticket costs 5430 rupees or $30 each and is only valid on that day.
BEST TIME TO CLIMB SIGIRIYA LION ROCK
Surely the best times are in the early morning and late afternoon.
Surely the number of people increases during the day, but if you want to enjoy this climb both for the temperatures and for the number of tourists then you have to go early in the morning.
We went at 6:30 in the morning convinced that we were among the first to find few people.
Getting to the top takes 30-45 minutes depending on your pace and how many people are on the stairs. The full tour lasts about 4 hours.
BEES AND MONKEYS
The bees of Sigiriya Lion Rock are famous. Signs are clearly visible when you start your climb. But DON’T WORRY hardly attack, just take it easy and be careful.
In the first area where you can stop to rest there are many monkeys. Be careful if you have anything to eat because they might steal it from you, they are not afraid of anything.
PIDURANGALA ROCK THE ALTERNATIVE
If you want to spend less on the ticket Pidurangala is a great choice.
The ticket costs only $5 per person, we recommend to do both as they are really magnificent.
Unlike Sigirya Lion Rock, this climb is not suitable for everyone, as there is no real route but you have to climb between rocks and small paths, the entire route is 3km uphill.
The view that you can admire once you get to the top is truly breathtaking, and repays all the effort made to reach it.
We recommend to bring water and to use very comfortable shoes. The best time to go is definitely the sunset, we started climbing around 4 PM to be already on when it set.
