Located about 70km from the coast of Surat Thani, Koh Samui is the second largest island in Thailand.
This gorgeous island is absolutely our favorite, beacause the beaches of Koh Samui are insane. The best enjoyable time is from February to the end of June, when the rainy season ends and you can experience all the activities available.
And, of course, we chose precisely the opposite period: one time we had to stay in our room four nights in a row because of the weather.
However, as soon as the weather broke, we continued our vacation.
But now let’s talk about the 5 beaches of Koh Samui to see now!
1-CRYSTAL BAY, SILVER BEACH
Welcome to paradise! This is the first thought that came to our minds as soon as we got to see the full view of the beach.
A small bay that recalls, with these particular rocks, the Seychelles.
The color of this water seems surreal: so clear that you can see every grain of white sand and even the smallest shell.
Plus, you can have a tropical cocktail lying down on the beach, surrounded by a rich and characteristic vegetation, and great rocks spread all over the place.
Small advice: try to reach the spot early in the morning and you’ll be able to enjoy the moment without so many tourists.
Crystal Bay Silver Beach is a free beach, so you’ll have to arrange yourself with the equipment you think is appropriate.
Located in the northern part of the island, this is one of the beaches of Koh Samui that maintains a wild appearance.
Framed by small wooden houses and palm trees directly overlooking the golden sand, the sea is so irresistible, with its tropical colors, that you would jump right into it, first thing.
The flat water with sandy bottom is also perfect for families who want to spend a day of pure relax.
Small advice: to enjoy this paradise to the fullest, you can’t help but having a nice grilled cob while you’re sitting on your towel waiting to get back into the water for another dreamy bath.
Situated in the eastern part of Koh Samui, it is certainly the most popular beach on the island, also the largest.
Perfect for families but also for young people who want to have fun. Across the entire beachfront promenade, there is an infinite number of bars, restaurants, resorts and luxury hotels, each one of them set up for every taste and every need.
This is the area where the major part of the tourists book their staying. In every location, of course, there are pros and cons: we preferred spending our vacation at Tango Luxe Beach Villa a quieter place (near the Buddhist temple) but still, we never stayed in one beaches for more than a day.
We kept moving in order to best enjoy our time there.
It’s the second most famous beach in Koh Samui, a half-moon shaped bay with large beaches, surrounded by palm trees.
A real paradise that deserves of being included between the beaches of Koh Samui to see right away!
Beach Lamps is less crowded than Chaweng Beach, so for this reason it can be considered as a good compromise between those who seek peace and relax but does not want to be too far from the premises.
Get ready to meet many local vendors, never intrusive but who will welcome you with a nice smile.
5-LIPA NOI BEACH
And here is the ideal beach for families and for those looking for a well-deserved rest. It’s an area where the beach is very thin.
There are no corals or stones on the ground and the water isn’t very deep, so it’s possible to stay in it for hours getting the perfect tan or letting the kids play.
Forget about nightclubs, parties and live music, the typical nightlife of Chaweng.
This is the most remote part of the island, but perfect for those who want to visit every part of Thailand: it is close to the dock where many boats start their trip and excursions.
From this bay you can admire surreal sunsets, to say the least. It will become your evening appointment, which you will not want to miss anymore.
